Congratulations to the Class of 2022 on your completion of the apprenticeship program to become Local 520’s newest journey- persons. I also want to thank the Local 520 Alumni Association for planning and hosting a great graduation banquet.
The last test session for anyone applying for the 2023-24 Apprentice School Year will be Monday, January 30, 2023. The cut-off for submission of application packets is Monday January 13, 2023. Any applications received after the deadline will not be tested until September 2023 and will be tested for the 2024-25 school year.
We have been busy visiting schools, attending job fairs, and using social media to get the word out about apprenticeship programs. Things are shaping up to be the largest group of qualified applicants for interviews ever.
The training staff and I are currently working to schedule spring journeyman classes. Check the website or call the Training Office for the full list of 2023 classes.
Evening weld classes will take a break over the holidays with the last class on November 22. We will start back on January 3 and run every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. until May. Thursday evening CAD will also take a break over the holidays with the last class on November 17, and they will restart on January 5.
In October the JATC sent instructors Pat Jones and Nate Zook to Ann Arbor, Michigan to complete their final 40 hours of training to become our newest EPRI Rigging and Signal Person Instructors. Pat will teach journeyman classes and Nate will teach the fifth year service apprentices.
The JATC is working with Local 74 in Delaware to send two instructors to a newly implemented semiconductor/pharmaceutical orbital welding “train-the-trainer” class in early 2023. Additional details will be announced.
Keep an eye out for your 2023 plumbing license renewal. Harris- burg has already sent out renewals and you should see Susquehanna Township in late 2022. Remember to send copies to the Training Department for our records.
Best wishes to all for a safe and happy holiday season from the Training Department Staff and JATC Trustees!
